The HIS System Church Sound System Standard

Audio equipment, hardware & Acoustical Products

The HIS System Standard was originally created in 1986. It was created for the audio community by churches. It was not created by the audio community for churches. While it is often reviewed, most of it has not changed since then. Products not on this list either failed our test methods under typical church conditions or the products did not have the features to meet the HIS System Standard. It does not reflect the quality of the product in other audio application nor non HIS System church sound systems.

This list is intended for churches seating under 2000 people or churches with mixer under 42 channels. This list is also for churches that want to be under $60.00 per seat budget for a full blown system. In most cases, a church can have a basic HIS System for around $35.00 to $45.00 per seat. (This does not include a full complement of microphones, floor monitors and other auxiliary items.)

It should also be pointed out that this list is not complete either. There are just too many audio products to compile, test and study. The items listed however do reflect good to excellent performances when these products are combined for a given church project. This list will be updated several times a year.

This list is based on three elements.

1: These items are currently being used by HIS System Contractors and were field reported with good to excellent results

2: I have personally used or tested these items with good success in typical church conditions

3: These items were supplied to us by manufacturers and A/B tested in an existing HIS System installation with equal volume testing and compared to what was currently being used in the church. (Some manufacturers have offered their equipment for our evaluation without any obligations or commitments. ) Staged demo’s do not qualify for testing.
