This is a chapel that can seat 180 people.
We had put in a new HIS System but we knew
before we installed it there was going to
be a problem. The church didn't beleive there
was an acoustical problem but they did allow
us to install the panels to prove our claims.
The church had already tried several sound
systems and they all failed to do what was
promised.
The church board members had heard the HIS
System in other churches and they were convinced
that the HIS System would work well without
any acoustical treatment. We told the church
that the HIS System would work, at best in
the chapel, to a level of 86% intelligibility
and that this would not be good enough with
the speaker system they wanted. (A 60 x 40
horn speaker was going to give them 89% intelligibilty,
but we knew that that was not going to be
good enough either.) The goal was for 92%
or better. The room called for 30 panels.
In making these panels, we made a material
change in the internal parts of the panels.
These changes were not tested but the test
data from the manufacturer of the fiberous
materials indicated that we work working
with a better product, but how much beter,
we could only calculate and hope we were
right. After we installed these 18 panels,
we tested the room with a MLSSA. To our surprise,
the results were better with less than half
of the panels installed. The extra panels
went into classrooms.
A Church Basement
Another Church basement
In Meaford Ontario, a church built a 250
sactuary with a gym at the back. The wall
between the Sanctuary and Gym can be opened
as shown in this shot.
Another View of the panels in
the gym area
of the church. Since we use a
fire rated
Guilford Cloth, we can often
match 100% to
existing room colors. It should
be pointed
out that the panels are more
effective if
mounted in irregular patterns
and extra panels
- when possible on the axis points
of a room.
This is a basement of a church
that seats
350 people for meals. The floor
is tiles
on concrete, concrete and block
walls and
concrete ceiling. Only 48 panels
were needed.
Since this room is sometimes
used for floor
hockey, the custodian can remove
the panels
in 10 minutes.
